After receiving his DVM degree from the University of California, Davis, he completed a year-long internship at Santa Cruz Veterinary Hospital in California, where he focused on small animal surgery and medicine. Following his internship, he returned to the University of California at Davis for a 3-year small animal surgery residency. Upon concluding that intense residency and attaining ACVS board certification, he worked one year as staff surgeon at a Santa Cruz, California referral practice. He then joined a multi-specialty practice in Portland, Oregon, where he was an associate surgeon for more than three years. Then he joined Cornell University Veterinary Specialists, a multi-specialty private / academic hybrid advanced care facility in their New England location, where he had a central role in creating, establishing and operating the hospital's surgery department. His family underestimated their deep ties to, and affection for the Pacific Northwest, and they returned to the Portland area in 2012.
His surgical interests and experience include all aspects of orthopedic and soft-tissue surgery, as well as neurosurgery. He has a strong interest in trauma, surgical oncology and reconstructive surgery, elective orthopedics and arthroscopy, as well as thoracic and GI surgery. He has given numerous presentations in local and national forums, and published articles in major journals on orthopedic and surgical oncology topics. His research work on canine elbow incongruity received an annual 'Best Clinical Publication award' from the American College of Veterinary Surgeons. In addition to the immense satisfaction he gets from his profession, Dr. Kramer also cherishes spending time with his human and animal family, and enjoys camping, long-distance running, cycling, travel and reading.
